GUWAHATI: A comprehensive set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) has been issued by the State Education Department as schools in the State prepare to reopen from January 1. The SOP contains detailed guidelines on the measures to be taken by educational institutions, students and guardians while going back to schools and colleges in the new year.

The SOPs will be applicable for all government and private schools including upper primary schools, secondary schools, senior secondary schools, degree colleges, engineering colleges, and polytechnic/private educational institution.

In lower primary (elementary) schools classes will be held on every alternate day for all the classes from Class I to Class V.

The upper primary schools (class VI to VII), secondary schools (class IX and X) and senior secondary schools (class XI and XII) will function in normal manner with effect from January 1, 2021 on working school days. The formal education and the schools will adhere to the timing of classes, mid-day-meal etc., as per norms, instructions and rules inforce issued by the Government from time to time prior to declaration of lockdown in the State (prior to 24/3/20). However, the head of the institution will ensure that all safety COVID-19 protocols are strictly followed.

The degree colleges, engineering colleges, polytechnic/teacher training colleges, universities etc will also function normally on day to day basis from January 1, 2020, stated a release.
