No road mishap in Guwahati city during Bihu days

GUWAHATI: In line with the precautions taken in the city on New Year's Eve, the police carried out night checking of vehicles and the sobriety of drivers, with the result that not a single road traffic accident occurred here on Uruka and Magh Bihu.

According to police sources, 48 cases of drunken driving were detected in the city, along with 58 cases of riding two-wheelers without a helmet, 22 cases of not wearing a seatbelt. A total of 596 cases of violation of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act were registered on the day of Uruka and fines worth Rs 11,52,000 were imposed on the offenders.
