Northeast GI food products exported to Vietnam

PALASBARI: To promote Northeast India across the world through its agro heritage, a start-up – North East Farm Sales Promotion (NEFSP) – incubated at Assam Startup with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park & Manage, Ministry of Agriculture did the first export of North East GI Food products viz Assam Orthodox Tea, Large Cardamom, Naga Chilli & Black Rice and Bathing soaps made by fruits to Hochiminh city, Vietnam on May 19 from LGBI Airport International air cargo terminal.
The chief guest of the program was Dr Laxmanan, Secretary Industries, Government of Assam, and the guest of honour was Consul General of India Dr Madan Sethi at Hochiminh city, Vietnam.
Assam and North East India is a god gifted region in the agro sector. Various unique rice varieties, spices, tea, bamboo, fruits etc., are available here — the sweetest pineapple to hottest chilli, anti-cancer black rice to instantly-ready magic rice, immunity-booster ginger to highest curcumin turmeric, unique varieties of lemon to world-famous tea. It has approximately 20 agri GIs, which is a sizable number.
