 STAFF REPORTER,

GUWAHATI: Noted Assamese author Dr Nagen Saikia's popular story from the 80's "Staff Photographeror Sobi" which has been translated into multiple foreign languages will now be made into a film. The announcement regarding this project was made on April 10 at the Guwahati Press Club by producers Debojyoti Bora and Arini Gogoi.

The new project has been named "Wide-Angle" by the producers. The protest to remove foreigners from Assam in the 80s is the background of the plot and seeks to highlight the life of a truthful and daring staff photographer who believes in honest journalism. It showcases the problems that the journalist faces in his day-to-day life, which will be been created as a film for the modern-day audience by playwriter Pankajyoti Bhuyan.

The direction, as well as the music of this film, will be done by popular musician and director Jayanta Nath. The cinematography will be done by Suman Duwara and the makeup by Biswa Saikia.

News media is the fourth pillar of democracy, and a photojournalist has an immense responsibility. Although the protagonist Dilip Bhagawati is a reputed person, he is also a failure for many reasons. He has seen many adversities during his career. The problems of the childless couple increase when a student leader staying with them is hounded by the police every night. The film attempts to show the sacrifices that the family is forced to make because of this.

Popular Assamese actor Tapan Das plays a key role in the film while other roles are enacted by Aparna Dutta Choudhury, Pabitra Barua, Jolly Laskar and new faces Dipankar Roy and Dhwani Mohan. Popular singer Zubeen Garg also plays the role of a revolutionary in the film. Cameo roles will be played by Rajiv Goswami and Geetawali Rajkumari.

Shooting for this film will start on May 27 in Jorhat as per the producers.
