NRL Privatization Most Unfortunate: Former CM Tarun Gogoi

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has termed privatization of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd as the most unfortunate development since the refinery was the outcome of the historic Assam Accord.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday Gogoi, a veteran Congress leader also questioned the role of present Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the entire development.

“Sonowal had initially pleaded ignorance about the move to privatize the NRL. But he wrote a letter to the Centre on Monday seeking clarifications on the issue. Either Sonowal is making a fool of the people or Assam or he is incompetent to extract information on the issue from the Petroleum ministry. Instead of writing a letter to the Centre Sonowal could have asked the State Chief Secretary or his personal secretary to gather the information,” Gogoi said.

Gogoi lamented that the BJP which promised to safeguard the ‘Jati Mati Bheti’ of the Assamese people, has brought the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. “Now the party is remaining a mute spectator to sale of NRL to private parties,” he said.
