Proposal For Preservation of Eight Archeological Sites By Directorate of Archeology

GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Archeology has undertaken a special initiative for the preservation of eight archeological sites and submitted a proposal of Rs 1,62,00,000 to the State government. The proposed projects under the conservation of archeological sites and monuments includes the Hatimura Archaeological Site, Jakhalabandha, Nagaon district, the Aswakranta Dewalaya Archaeological Site, North Guwahati, Kamrup district, the Moterjhar Temple Archaeological Site, Dhubri district, the Ghuhuha Doul Archaeological Site, Dhemaji district, the Maghnowa Doul Archaeological Site, Lakhimpur district, the Jagadhatri Doul Archaeological Site, Sivsagar district, the Fakua Doul Archaeological Site, Sivsagar district, and the Brick Building at Moina, Karimganj district.

Further, the Directorate of Archeology has forwarded another proposal of Rs 20 lakh towards the State government for the excavation of the Alichinga Archaeological Site in Golaghat district. Archaeologists conduct surveys to search for particular archaeological sites or kinds of sites, to detect patterns in the distribution of material culture over regions, to make generalizations or test hypotheses about past cultures, and to assess the risks that development projects will have adverse impacts on archaeological heritage. As such, keen to delve further into archeological finds, the Directorate of Archeology has forwarded another proposal to the State government to undertake a survey at various places in the Barak Valley.
