GUWAHATI: In view of the recent spike in COVID-19 related cases in the country, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has already taken appropriate measures to create awareness amongst passengers to restrict the spread of the disease. Awareness and precautions are the keys to remain safe from getting affected from this virus.

The NFR is doing awareness campaigns regularly through various platforms like print, social and electronic media to alert all passengers about the safety protocols to be observed. Audio-visual campaign and announcements are being done regularly at all railway station premises on 24x7 basis, stated a release.

It may be mentioned here that the NFR has been running special mail/express trains apart from passenger special trains connecting various cities throughout the length & breath of the nation. Presently about 53 pairs of mail/express and 27 pairs of local passenger trains are being operated as specials with imposition of certain passenger safety related restrictions.

For undertaking journey, tickets can be purchased through the IRCTC website, PRS/UTS counters or through Mobile App. Presently cooked food is not being provided on trains to avoid human touch. The IRCTC will provide dry, ready-to-eat food and packaged drinking water on payment. No linen, blankets and curtains will be provided and the temperature of the coaches will be adjusted accordingly. However, passengers may carry their own linen.

Railway is following COVID related guidelines issued by respective State governments in various stations. Necessary help is being provided to the Health department of respective States for testing arrangement of train passengers. Passengers should travel with minimum luggage and wear face covers/masks at the stations and trains during travel. Passengers shall observe social distancing both at the station and on trains. All passengers are also advised to download and use the Aarogya Setu application before undertaking the journey. Railway has also decided to impose fine on passengers if found violating any COVID related safety guidelines.

On arrival at their destination, the passengers will have to adhere to prevailing health protocols of the destination State. The NFR has requested all passengers to cooperate with the Railways and respective State government officials in this regard, the release added.
