Rape charge against Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti office-bearer

GUWAHATI: An FIR was lodged on Saturday by a woman in Borhat Police Station in Charaideo district against a person named Papu Gogoi (32) on the charge of raping her minor daughter in his own house. According to the police, Papu Gogoi is reportedly the publicity secretary of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti’ Charaideo district committee. Papu Gogoi, son of Lt. Suresh Gogoi, hails from Narem Pathar village near the village of the victim girl.

According to police sources, the victim girl tried to commit suicide by consuming poison after the incident. She somehow ran back her home told her mother of the incident, the police said.

The victim, according to the police, was taken to the local hospital at Borhat wherein Borhat PS OC also reached immediately. Victim was later referred to Rajapukhuri Civil Hospital, Sonari. She is stable now. The accused has been apprehended from Dibrugarh later in the day. A case (02/2020 u/s- 376 IPC R/W- Sec- 4 POCSO Act) has been registered against the accused. Investigation is on.
