Retired Assistant Director of Sericulture allegedly manhandled by workers of AGP

Guwahati: At a time when Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was holding a massive protest rally against the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 at the Latasil playground today, a retired Assistant Director of the Sericulture department of Assam was allegedly manhandled by the workers of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) claiming him to be a ‘BJP agent’.

The retired senior citizen was identified as Biman Baruah (65).

As per reports, the person had allegedly criticized AGP Government in the rally today and alleged that the AGP party which is in alliance with the BJP Government had “failed to safeguard the Axomiya Jaati (community)”.

Few of the AGP workers not willing to be named also claimed that he was held mistakenly held as ‘BJP agent’ as he earlier gave a memorandum to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).

Challenging the AGP party today, Biman Baruah told the media, “I am a senior citizen of India and a retired official of the Department of Sericulture. I was attacked by the AGP workers if I would have been an agent of the BJP Government then why would I submit a memorandum to the JPC.”

It may be mentioned that the situation got little intensified thereafter, however, the AGP party workers later managed to control the situation.
