GUWAHATI: The SAKP (Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad) has called cease work on December 18 demanding cancellation of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), 2019.

Talking to The Sentinel on Monday, Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad president Basab Chandra Kalita said, “The employees of the State aren’t going to attend office on December 18 demanding cancellation of the CAA. The people of the State haven’t accepted the CAA, nor have we. We support the current agitation in the State against the CAA. Since the State government employees are an integral part of the society we need to stand beside the people of the State in this hour of crisis. This is the reason why we’ve called the cease work. Even now the government has time to heed to the people’s demand and cancel the CAA.”

Meanwhile, the Asom Sachivalaya Seva Santha, the Asom Sachivalaya Stenographers’ Association and the Assam Assembly Employees’ Association have extended their support to the cease work called by the SAKP.

Assam Sachivalaya Seva Santha general secretary Partha Hazarika said, “On December 18 the employees of the State Secretariat will take part in the satyagraha of the AASU to show solidarity with the students’ body.”

The SAKP’s cease work also has the support of the AASU.
