STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The suspension of Saibar Rahman, Deputy Secretary, Welfare of Minorities Development Department, Government of Assam, has been extended for another three months. In this regard, the Personnel Department, Goverment of Assam, has issued a notification.

Rahman was placed under suspension on August 24, 2021 subsequent to his arrest the same day in Vigilance PS case no. 3/2021. After his arrest and suspension, a show-cause notice was issued and the notice is currently under examination. A review committee was constituted to review his suspension. After examination of all records of cases against Rahman and considering the seriousness of the charges, which involve moral turpitude, corruption and misuse of official power for personal gain, the committee decided that Rahman's re-instatement at this stage may not be in the interest of public service.

Rahman has been arrested for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, besides other charges.
