GUWAHATI: The first biennial convention of the Sadou Asom Sanmilita Shikshak Mancha, (SASSM), an umbrella body of 10 teachers' organizations representing around 1.5 lakh teachers, on Sunday adopted a resolution to oppose the State Government's decision to teach Maths and Science in English from Class-III onwards.

The convention also demanded scrapping of the Government's decision to establish model schools where fees will be charged from students.

The convention stated that if the Government does not withdraw both these decisions, then the SASSM will take to the streets in protest.

Today's convention at the Shikshak Bhawan in Chandmari also elected a new executive body with tenure of two years. Ranjit Borthakur was elected as the chief of presidium and Syed Anisur Rahman was elected as secretary general, while one president and one secretary was elected from each constituent organization.

It may be mentioned that the SASSM was established in 2019 to voice various grievances of the teachers and address issues pertaining to the education sector.
