GUWAHATI: A seminar on 'Peace building and Reconciliation ushering in an era of no war' was held at the Centre of Excellence for Human Rights Jurisprudence of the Department of Law, Gauhati University on Saturday. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Aparajita Baruah, Head of the Department of Law.

An insightful lecture was delivered by the chief guest, Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta, education advisor to the Government of Assam, where he said, "Delivering justice is the best form of peace building." He dwelt at length highlighting the positive, negative and spiritual aspects of peace building. According to Professor Mahanta, the traditional form of conflict has shifted to individual, group and psychological conflict and spirituality can be accepted as one of the best practices for resolving such conflict. The concept of 'dharma', which is righteousness, can be well understood in the context of harmonious coexistence of diverse religious practices in Assam.

The guest of honor, Prof. (Dr.) Jagadish Sarma highlighted the concept of peace while referring to different Vedic literature. A brief speech was also delivered by Prof. Rajiv Handique, Head of the Department of History, Gauhati University.

The programme was attended by more than 100 participants, including research scholars, students.
