GUWAHATI: You may be properly shod, but beware of your shoes that may take coronavirus to your home. With a view to fighting this menace, Dr Deep Sarma, a dentist of Kamrup (M) district, has developed a shoe sanitizing machine that sanitizes your shoes when you put your legs with shoes intact on it.

Talking to The Sentinel on Saturday, Dr Sarma said, "Ultra violet ray is used in the device that makes a sound as and when a person puts his/her legs on it with shoes intact. When the sound comes to an end, the person should take his/her legs away. It sanitizes the shoes properly.

"During Lockdown 1.0 we're sitting idle. I had a discussion with my team members on a possible way to sanitize shoes. Shoes are vulnerable as they are likely to take coronavirus while walking. Spitting on roads and other public places is a common practice in India. We've developed the shoe sanitizing machine taking the slogan 'vocal for local' in mind." He said that ultra-violet rays don't have any ill effect on shoes.
