GUWAHATI: The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has slammed AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary Jitendra Singh's Assam visit. Singh is AICC's Assam in-charge. Addressing the media persons, State BJP chief spokesperson RupamGoswami said the Congress party in its 60-year-old regime didn't work for the economic, political, cultural and intellectual development of the tea communities. Now, due to votebank politics, all of a sudden the party leaders are going near to the people of the tea community, he said.

"Jitendra Singh is not a popular leader. By making him the incharge of APCC, the Assam Congress has lost its existence at the national level. In the past, the APCC had many influential leaders who were appointed as in-charge including - Digvijay Singh and Harish Rawat," Goswami added.

He reiterated that the Congress government didn't work for the development of the tea community. But, after the BJP came to power, it has taken various development projects for the community.

Further, Goswami highlighted some of the works done by the BJP for the development of the tea community. He underlined that the BJP has provided financial assistance and scholarships for students of the tea community, water supply schemes in tea tribe areas, scholarships for higher education, financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each to 1,000 SHGs, special guest houses at the GMCH for the tea community patients, bank accounts for 7.5 lakh tea workers, Rs 12,000 financial assistance for 1 lakh pregnant women, free electricity connection to tea tribe labourers.

He also added that recently foundation stones were laid for the construction of 119 schools in tea gardens and many other such projects have been implemented by the party.
