Students' film festival Jonaki underway in Gauhati University

GUWAHATI: Jonaki, the two-day film extravaganza hosted by the Department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University kicked off on Friday. Saurav Pran Goswami, Dean, Gauhati University formally inaugurated the second edition of the Jonaki Film Festival.

Aimed at promoting ethnic language films of the Northeast among the students, the festival was started in 2018. This is the second edition of the festival and the films are screened at the PD and AT hall. The festival started with the opening film Stalking the Storks by Ankuran Dutta. Bhaskar Hazarika's Aamis will be the closing film of the festival.

In his inaugural address, Head of Department of Communication and Journalism Ankuran Dutta said that over thousands audience are expected to participate in the festival. He said, "A good film has the power to put an effect not only in bringing changes in mental aspect but also in terms of practical manner."

Director of Cultural Affairs Department Bishnu Kamal Bora and secretary Madhurima Baruah Sen and GU secretary to classes Dilip Bora attended the festival as chief guests. Speaking on the occasion Dilip Bora said that these two days will help in ameliorating the minds through entertainment.

Madhurima Baruah Sen said, "The Jonaki initiatives and the quality movies will put a positive impact upon the society." It is to be mentioned that besides various films of Assam and the Northeast like Maaj Raati Keteki, Calendar, Bornodi Bhotiai, some Bodo and Mishing language films are also going to be screened in these two days.
