Symposium on Deceased Organ Donation organized in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Zublee Foundation, the first and only organization of the North-East working for Deceased Organ Donation, organized the 1st Symposium on 'Deceased Organ Donation: The Way Forward' in association with National Medicos Organization.

According to a press release, the heavy rains that drenched the city could not stop the symposium from being a successful one. It was organized to bring the private and public hospitals and NGOs into a common platform to understand and conceptualize the roles and responsibilities of each entity as stakeholders to make the Deceased Organ Donation & Transplantation programme a successful one in the North-East.

The symposium was graced by Dr Sarbeswar Sahariah, (Padmashree awardee), Vice Chairman, KIMS Hospital, Hyderabad who was the Guest Speaker for the evening. He made a detailed presentation to make the attendees aware about Deceased Organ Donation by sharing his experience of being in the practice of harvesting from dead donors and transplanting into patients who are still doing fine in their respective lives. Dr Pranjal Deka, Liver Surgeon of Down Town Hospital, also shared the first success story of liver transplant that happened in North-East.

Piyanka Borah, CEO, Zublee Foundation, also shared their journey of promoting Deceased Organ Donation in the North-East through various mediums and also highlighted on expanding the organization and its work to Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and eventually take the responsibility of the rest of the Northeastern States. Other eminent dignitaries from Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Tezpur Medical College & Hospital, Dhubri Medical College &Hospital, Assam Medical College & Hospital, FAAMC&H, along with their counterparts from some of the topmost hospitals of Assam like GNRC, Nemcare, Healthcity, Ayursundra, Hayat, Narayana Hridayalaya, Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Down Town and Guwahati Metro Hospitals, and NEIGHRIMS from Meghalaya. They also shared their perspective on the matter and assured to work together to make Zublee Foundation's dream come true.

All the doctors and health administrators were felicitated with mementos and gamosas. All the hospitals who attended the symposium were also recognized and felicitated. It was an accomplished symposium with the involvement of 70 people from all across the region. The symposium resulted in coming to productive conclusions on the matter where all the attendees expressed their views on making this possible. The founder and chairperson of Zublee Foundation, Zublee Baruah, said that the second symposium will be organized in a much larger way within next to three-four months to further discussions to take it further for the greater good of the State and the North-East.
