Guwahati: Pijush Hazarika, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Assam on Thursday said that the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) would win more than 30 TAC seats in the Tiwa Autonomous Council election 2020 which held on Thursday (December 17).

Minister Hazarika is confident enough of getting from Tiwa Autonomous Council poll after the formation of Bodoland Territorial CouncilĀ (BTC) executive council allying with the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and Gana Suraksha party (GSP). "Now BJP is everywhere. We will definitely win in TAC election also," Hazarika added.

"We will definitely win more than 30 seats. We have contested in 34 seats and we have won one seat without contesting. I am confident that the BJP will get more than 30 seats," he said while visited the polling booth in Morigaon to cast his vote. The Minister was also accompanied by his wife Aimee Boruah.

The polling of 35 constituencies was held on Thursday (December 17) from Morning 7.30 AM in as many as 410 polling booths in four districts of Assam - Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, and Kamrup (M) abiding by all COVID-19 protocols. Sanitization and wearing of the mask were followed before entering the polling booths and voting closed at 4.30 PM.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested 35 council seats and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) contested one seat. While Congress contested all the 36 seats. A total of 3,08,409 voters will seal the fate of 124 candidates who are in the poll fray

80% voter turnout was seen.

The counting of votes is scheduled for December 19.

Since the epidemic hit the state, TAC polls are the second election in the state after Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls.

The counting of votes will take place on December 19.
