GUWAHATI: After former State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi died in Guwahati on Monday while undergoing treatment for post-COVID-19 complications, various leaders expressed grief and shared their condolence messages.

MP Abdul Khaleque said it is an irreparable loss to the State and the Northeast.

Praying for the bereaved soul, Khaleque said, "The three-term CM and six-time MP Tarun Gogoi was respected by all communities. He was a national-level leader of the Congress and till the time of his death he was a member of the Congress working committee. In the last 25 years, I got the opportunity to work with him on several grounds. He was a real democratic leader." The MP added that the people have lost a guardian and gave his condolences to the bereaved soul.

Minister Jogen Mohan said, "It is news of grief for the people of Assam. The people have lost an efficient leader. All of us can take political knowledge from him."

MP PallabLochan Das said, "He was like a father figure who guided us. We will follow his ideals for days to come."

Rajya Sabha MP Rani Narah said, "I have lost a guardian. Memories of working with him are hurting me."

Former Minister Bharat Narah said, "I am devastated with his loss. We have lost an efficient and clean leader. Incidents like secret killings were stopped during his tenure."

Former Minister Nazrul Islam said, "Nowadays it hard to find a secular leader like Gogoi." AICC secretary Bhupen Kumar Borah said he has lost a father figure. "The party has lost a guardian at a crucial time. I am feeling that I have lost my father," Borah said.

Paying last tribute to Gogoi, MLA Ajanta Neog said he was her political guru. She said she felt that she has lost her father.

MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed said he is an MLA because of Gogoi. We will have to keep alive his ideals, Ahmed added.

MLA Wajed Ali Choudhury said, "The loss of his demise to the party will be hard to recover."

Former Minister Gautam Borah said the former CM was respected by everyone for his foresightedness.

AsomJatiyabadi Yuba ChatraParishad (AJYCP) president Rana Pratap Baruah in a statement said TarunGogoi was a shining star of Assam politics.

"It is a loss to reparable loss to the State's politics. He will be remembered forever by the people of the Assam," added AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai.
