GUWAHATI: The All India Trade Union Congress Assam State Committee has demanded that workers and labors who are working in the unorganized sector should be vaccinated on a priority basis.

Further the committee has also urged that other facilities such as mask and sanitizers should also be provided at their work place.

In a statement from the All India Trade Union Congress Assam State Committee's general secretary Romen Das said, "The COVID situation is grim in entire Guwahati and the workers and labors are working in a very dangerous environment without wearing mask and social distancing."

Das further alleged that the contractors and the owners are forcefully asking the workers and labors to work after 2 PM without following COVID-19 protocol.

The general secretary said that the contractors as well as the owners are using the workers on their personal interest and profit.

It is to be mentioned here that workers and labors not only in the construction sector but also in other business institutions wherein people are used to load and unload goods are also not following COVID-19 protocol.

Das said that if this continues the COVID situation in the city will face dire consequences.

Meanwhile the committee has demanded 5 things to be worked upon:

The contractors must follow all COVID protocol and provide masks, sanitizers to all labors and workers with proper social distancing.

Daily wage earners who loads and unloads goods must also be provided with masks and sanitizers.

Domestic helps/workers should also be provided with masks and sanitizers by their owner's in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Workers/labors from the unorganized sector should be vaccinated on a particular day and date.

Apart the Kamrup (M) administration, vaccine should also be provided to workers/labors at the panchayat level.

The committee also appealed that the workers and the labors that have lost their job due to this pandemic should be provided with ration and with a monthly financial aid of Rs 7500, which can be transferred via DBT benefit.
