Tribute to Ma (Dr Niharika Kalita)

My mother, Dr Niharika Kalita, was always an ideal and perfect example of great positive personality and character, good will and care for all along with excellence in all aspects starting from academics, medical and surgical perfection to co-curricular activities like sports and household activities including cooking delicious traditional food.

Maa has always been my greatest love and closest friend with whom I can share everything.

She was born on a very auspicious day coinciding with the holy "Biswakarma Puja" on 17th September 1969 in Tezpur. She pursued her early schooling in different parts of India like Dewlali, Nasik, Agra and Pune because of repeated transfers of my grandfather in Airforce.

During her school days she was awarded the first prize for her beautiful handwriting. She was also very good in sports particularly athletics in which she won many laurels. Later on during high school, she had keen interest in Science and joined the MBBS course in GMCH (Batch 1988). Due to her excellent results, she initially wanted to be a good teacher to help the needy.

She later on met my father, Dr Gautam Nayak as an Intern and that is when they married. She then pursued PG in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MD) in GMCH. She decided to opt for a renowned Charitable hospital, Marwari Maternity Hospital, as a Consultant Surgeon for more than 20 years to serve the poor and needy due to which many saw her as an angel.

She has also achieved severable honourable mementos notably the prestigious "Asian Society for Hysteroscopy" and "Shree Marwari Databya Aushadhalaya Centenary Best Doctor" along with other respectable awards for her unwavering hard work.

Even after so many rounds and operations and other busy schedule she always found ample amount of time for us all.

I know that she is and always will be with us as she is my God, my love, my hope and faith who can never leave her children on earth alone.
