GUWAHATI: The ULFA-I (United Liberation of Front of Assam-Independent) has extended its unilateral ceasefire with the Government of India by three months. This announcement was made by ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah in press statement on Saturday, when the timeframe of its earlier three-month true concluded.

Welcoming this declaration of the organisation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that "it is a positive and encouraging eannouncement." The CM also oointed out, "This is for the first time that the ULFA-I has not appealed to the public to boycott the I-Day of the country."

The Chief Minister also said, "The government hopes that ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah will return to the mainstream soon."
