GUWAHATI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Guwahati Police, Diganta Choudury on Sunday said that the action taken by the police against Victor Das, who alleged corruption in the recruitment process for Grade-III and Grade-IV posts under the State Government, is completely justified.

Das was arrested on Friday for spreading rumours and remanded to seven days' police custody by the court on Saturday.

DCP Choudhury told the media on Sunday that there Das has been unable to provide any evidence to support his allegations.

"We are keeping him for further interrogation. The bike number that he had provided to the police turned out to be false," Choudhury said. "The charges pressed by the police against Victor are not without reason. Charges under Section 153 (A) are framed against culprits who make provocative statements," the DCP said, adding that the statement made by Victor Das has the capacity to incite the candidates who had appeared in the examinations.

Meanwhile, five students of the coaching institute run by Das in the city have been also summoned by the police for questioning. Those summoned include one Amlanjyoti Dutta, who had earlier told the media that a few middlemen had asked for an amount of Rs 7 lakh to provide jobs on the basis of the recently-held recruitment examination.

The DCP said that the police is looking into the number mentioned by Amlanjyoti Dutta while making the allegation.
