War on drugs continues in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police is on its toes to tackle the menace of drugs. In recent days, the police have intensified their operations and are cracking down on peddlers.

On Friday, in its 'war on drugs', the police arrested three persons from different areas of the city in drug-related cases.

The Jalukbari Police has arrested one Bikram Das with around 30 gm suspected heroin. The seizure was made during a raid conducted at Das' house at Bakul path here.

In another operation, the Crime Branch arrested a peddler – Nabajyoti Das (32) following a raid conducted at Daya Sagar apartment in the Pub Sarania area.

The police have seized 14.6 gm heroin, two walkie talkies and one motorcycle from his possession.

Meanwhile, acting on a tip-off, the Satgaon Police along with Crime Branch seized two kg ganja from the house of Arfan Ali (32). The police have also seized Rs 74,000 cash, two mobile phones from his possession.

It is to be noted that the raid was conducted following an FIR lodged by SI (P) Deepjyoti Engti of Satgaon Police Station. Ali has been arrested under case (157/21) u/s 20 (b) NDPS Act. He has been forwarded to judicial custody.
