We oppose Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam: AGP President Atul Bora

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: AGP president Atul Bora has opposed the implementation of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) in Assam. The AGP had a meeting of its Legislature Party and other leaders of the party in Bora’s official residence on Saturday on the situation that has arisen in the State out of the CAA.

“We’ve already met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on this, and requested him to keep Assam out of the ambit of CAA. When CAB was introduced, we opposed it and resigned from the Cabinet. We did meet 11 different parties of the nation and prevented the Bill from being introduced in the Rajya Sabha. However, for the BJP the CAA has been a national commitment, and we’re a part of the BJP-led NDA alliance. Even though our MP opposed the CAA in the Rajya, he had to vote for the Bill for being an NDA partner,” Bora said, and added: “We’ve taken the legal course against the CAA. We hope we’ll get justice from the Supreme Court of India.”
