Will emulate Lachit Barphukan's ideology: All Assam Students' Union

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) recalled legendary Ahom General Lachit Barphukan today. The students' body pledged to follow the ideals of the great general.

Talking to the media, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said, "Lachit Barphukan is the symbol of valour of Assam. The Assamese can never forget the war he had waged against the marauding Mughals to save the socio-cultural life in Assam. Every Assamese should emulate his ideals. The AASU will continue to go ahead with his ideology and patriotism."

AASU general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "The public and some organizations have all along been observing the birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan. This year, the State Government is celebrating the 400th birth anniversary of the hero with a three-day extravaganza at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The AASU wants the spread of Lachit Barphukan's ideology in the entire nation."
