Berrd Chase: The 63 year-old who smashed Joel Garner in cricket eyes for gold in CWG18.

63 year-old Berrd Chase who is remembered for smashing West Indies bowler Joel Garner is now eyeing for gold in shooting during this year’s Commonwealth Games being held at Australia.

Berrd suffered a recent heart attack while cycling but this 63 year-old grandfather’s determition brought him here to Australia after he was given an all clear by his cardiologist to travel for CWG18.

While speaking to the media, Chase said “I was praying just before I was about to go cycling. The next thing I remember is that I woke up in a hospital two days later. Doctors found out I had a small blockage in one of the vessels of my heart when they made me walk on a treadmill.”

Berrd who debuted 16 years ago in Manchester somehow resembles reggae singer Bob Marley and his dreadlocks.

While most shooters stand at a 45-degree angle to their targets and aim with their right eyes Berrd loves to use his left eye to aim on targets.

Berrd dreamt of playing cricket for his country and started target shooting around 20 years ago. “I went to school with Joel Garner and we played cricket together” he said. Nonetheless, this 63 year-old grandfather from Barbados, Caribbean proves that age is just a number and strong determition can surely take you places.
