Bangladesh develops low-cost corona testing kit of around 300 taka

Bangladesh: In a major relief for the panic-stricken people, Bangladesh has, reportedly, developed a low-cost kit for detecting coronavirus infection. In India, the Indian Council of Medical Research has mandated that the private laboratories could not cost more than Rs.4500 for such a test. The cost of the kit developed in Bangladesh will cost only 250 to 300 taka (1 taka is equal to Rs. 0.91 in Indian currency). On Thursday last week, the Directorate General of Drug Administration of the neighbouring country had approved to produce the kit, which requires the import of some chemical materials known as reagents. As per reports, the kit has been developed by Gana Shaystha Kendra, a public health agency which runs some hospitals in the south-east Asian nation. The agency will have to send the kit for further approval from the World Health Organisation (WHO). The producer has claimed that the kit could accurately detect the coronavirus infection.
