Canada Hotel Installs 7-Feet-Tall Ice Sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Ahead of 75 years of independence in August, a hotel in Canada has installed a seven-feel tall ice sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi.

According to reports, the sculpture was made by Canadian ice artist Marc Lepire.

The Hotel de Glace is located near Quebec City, the capital of Quebec province. The sculpture was created and set up for display outside the hotel on Friday.

Images of the sculpture have been shared by the official Twitter handle of the Indian Consulate at Toronto with the caption, "Launching #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, to mark 75 years of India's Independence, with an ice sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi in the iconic ice hotel."

It is to be mentioned that on March 12, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,' marking 75 years of India's independence.

It was on March 12, 1930, that Gandhiji began the Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram against the Salt Laws along with 81 padyatris. During the Padyatra, the Padyatris will stay at the place of night halt and the Padyatra will start from the same place the next day.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a tribute by our people to our freedom fighters and freedom movement. During the celebrations the country will not only remember all the important milestones, important times during the freedom movement but also gain new energy for the development of our future, Modi wrote.

Meanwhile, the Central government has constituted a committee under Union Home Minister Amit Shah to chalk out policies and planning of various events to be undertaken as part of the celebrations.

Hotel de Glace, the only ice hotel in North America, has 21 rooms, an ice bar, snow slides and many other features.
