Wales: A study by the researchers of Cardiff University discovered that a mouthwash, which contains at least 0.07 per cent cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), shows 'promising signs' that it can reduce the transmission of the novel coronavirus.

The preliminary report by the scientists is yet to be reviewed by the experts of the same field. The report supports a study that mouthwash, which contains CPC reduces the amount of virus in a COVID-19 patient.

Clinical Trial of the Mouthwash on the COVID-19 Patients

The findings of the clinical trial of the mouthwash on the COVID-19 patients at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff is expected to be published by early 2021. The study will focus on whether mouthwash can reduce the coronavirus in a patient's saliva.

The UK mouthwash brand, Dentyl is a part of the clinical trial. It will be led by the Professor from Cardiff University., David Thomas. The professor said that more research is needed in this field as it has shown positive signs of killing the virus.

Another doctor, a specialist periodontologist, Dr Nick Claydon has also said that he thinks mouthwash can also be added to the already existing -- wearing masks, handwashing and maintain social distance to fight the virus.

There are around 56 million active COVID cases in the world. Much to the relief of the people across the world, the vaccine by the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer was found out to be 94.5% effective in their Phase three trials.

However, it is still unsure if the vaccine by Pfizer will reach India anytime soon or not, as cold storage chain is needed to store the vaccine candidate. It needs to be stored at a temperature of minus 70-degree celsius.
