UK Defense Secretary Raises Alarm, Says Putin May Declare World War 3 In Days

"I would not be surprised... that he is probably going to declare on May Day that, 'We are now at war with the World's Nazis'," Ben Wallace said.

London: UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has raised alarm bells about the possible outbreak of war and he warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin could as well declare World War III within days.

The fearmongering comments come at a time when Russia is all geared up to celebrate Victory Day on May 9. This particular day happens to be a momentous occasion for the Russians due to the fact that Nazi Germany finally surrendered on this day, thus ending World War II in 1945.

The bloody war between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24 when Moscow moved its tanks and armoured divisions into its western neighbours.

The Kremlin termed this move as a ''special military operation" and justified their offensive by saying that it is an effort to "denazify the country.

However, the Western bloc clearly did not buy this and instead slammed Moscow for its hawkish behaviour and labelled this move as an outright invasion of a sovereign nation.

"I would not be surprised... that he is probably going to declare on May Day that, 'We are now at war with the World's Nazis and we need to mass mobilize the Russian people," the Daily Star reported Wallace saying.

The UK defence secretary also emphasized the fact that Putin was repeatedly asserting that NATO was using Ukraine as a proxy to wage a war against Russia and he also stressed some of the Kremlin's statements where it said that NATO has been infiltrated by neo-Nazis. He denied all these allegations terming them as baseless.

Wallace speculated that Putin could use his speech on May 9 to arouse Russian patriotic emotions and mobilize Russian sentiments against Nazism in the midst of his failing military operation in Ukraine.
