The Triumph of Resilience

I have been able to triumph against my injuries with just one magic wand- willpower and resilience.
The Triumph of Resilience

In 1999 an unfortunate incident happened that changed my life and rattled me to the core. While pursuing my advanced course in Darjeeling I met with an accident. This happened when I was preparing myself for the next day's higher training in Sikkim. We were climbing an artificial wall and on account of a certain miscommunication of my partner I slipped and fell down from a 25 feet tall wall. I sustained several injuries that include a spinal injury and a crack in my backbone that had confined me to my bed for months.

Sports has been my lifeline and my sports life started when I was barely 10 or 11 years old. I always used to enthusiastically participate in different sports competitions that were held in my school like discus throw, shotput and javelin throw etc.

As I grew up, I realised that I was more inclined towards the adventurous games. Therefore, to pursue my hobby I started enrolling into several mountaineering and water sports camps.

Climbing a mountain is an experience that is hard to describe. It simply feels incredible to be in a beautiful environment amidst nature. The camps and courses that I have successfully completed include the 1992 National Rock Climbing Camp, the 1994 to 1997 All Assam Rock Climbing Camp, the 1997 Adventure Camp in Darjeeling's Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the 1998 Basic Mountaineering Course in Darjeeling's Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the 1998 Adventure Festival in Chandigarh, the 1998 All India Trekking in Sikkim (NCC), the 1999 Sandakphu trekking under the banner of our club Explorers and the 1999 Advance Mountaineering Course in Darjeeling's Himalayan Mountaineering Institute( under IMF scholarship).

But in 1999 an unfortunate incident happened that has changed my life and rattled me to the core. While pursuing my advance course in Darjeeling I met with an accident.

However, although this accident had caused a massive break and translated to a barrier in my sports career it could not kill my sportswoman spirit. I tried my best to overcome my health issues and stand up strong again. After a few years of struggle and hardship I got back to the track and joined a few events. The White River Rafting in Beki River, Manas National Park (held in 2003) was my comeback. In 2005 I did trekking in Meghalaya. In 2007 I undertook a training programme as a yoga teacher and in 2020 -2021 I also pursued a postgraduate diploma in yoga. In 2022 I secured the third position in Shot Put in the All Assam Para Sports Meet. This was held on 4th June. I hope to grab more and more opportunities and events to achieve my goal in the field of sports.

Today I am an assistant teacher in Raghunath Choudhari High School (a government school located at Narengi, Guwahati). I teach yoga .

In conclusion I must reiterate that I have been able to triumph against my injuries with just one magic wand- willpower and resilience.
