Manipur Police Collects Rs 33 Lakh as Fine for Lockdown Violations

Thoubal district detained 10,559 curfew violators followed by Imphal West district at 7,159 curfew violators.

Guwahati: Amid the ongoing lockdown that is now in its third phase, the Manipur Police department on Thursday detained 870 persons and seized 696 vehicles for violating the norms that have been put in place. Since the imposition of the lockdown on March 25 last, the Manipur police have collected a total of Rs 33,Ma44,730 as fine and seized 24,790 vehicles and detained 32,995 curfew violators. 

A statement issued by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) L Kailun said on Thursday that all the detained persons were produced before courts and a total fine of Rs 1.03 lakh was imposed on them.

In the release, the ADGP said, "Curfew violators shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005. Those who do not wear face mask in public and not maintain social distancing will be detained under the said Act as the lockdown is imposed to prevent spread of COVID-19 in the state". 

It is worth mentioning here that since March 25, Thoubal district detained 10,559 curfew violators followed by Imphal West district at 7,159 curfew violators.
