284 Stranded people of Meghalaya return from various states of Northeast

SHILLONG: A total of 284 citizens of Meghalaya who are stranded in various States of the Northeast retuned back on Tuesday.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that those who came in had made their own arrangements to reach the State.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that they entered the state through, Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills district, Byrnihat Ri-Bhoi district, Bajengdoba North Garo Hills district and Tikrikilla West Garo Hills district.

According to him, these persons were screening at the respective entry points and none had symptoms of Coronavirus.

He said that these persons were sent to their respective destinations wherein they will have to home quarantine themselves for 14 days.

Tynsong also informed the second batch of stranded citizens will be entering Meghalaya by Tuesday night of Wednesday morning.

"The state government had arranged for their transportation," he said.

Meanwhile, for those who are stranded outside the northeast, the Deputy Chief Minister has appealed to them to remain calm and stay in their respective places till the end of May.

"We appeal them to bear with us for the moment. We will have to first complete the process of receiving those citizens stranded within the northeast which will take us a week or two," Tynsong said.

He also informed that till Tuesday 1944 samples were collected out of which 1822 were reported negative and the result of 110 samples are awaited.
