Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed 3,970 persons return to Meghalaya

Second batch of residents stranded in Gujarat numbering around 225 will reach Guwahati on May 17

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has informed that a total of 3,970 residents of Meghalaya from the Northeast and other parts of the country have arrived in the State till date.

Tynsong informed that from outside the Northeast, 116 persons reached the State from West Bengal, from Rajasthan 33 people came back, from Madhya Pradesh 13, Bihar 8, Kerala 7, Uttar Pradesh 7, Jharkhand 5, Tamil Nadu 5 and Karnataka 4.

The Deputy Chief Minister told reporters that on Wednesday night that a train from Chennai with around 1,000 residents of Meghalaya will be leaving at 9 pm for Guwahati and will be reaching on May 15.

"These are those who are willing to come by train," he said.

Tynsong also informed that in the second batch residents of the State stranded in Gujarat numbering around 225 will start their journey by train on May 15 and will reach Guwahati on May 17.

While those from Karnataka numbering around 1,500 will board a train from Bengaluru on May 16 and will reach Guwahati on May 18.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that all those who have come from outside the Northeast will be treated as coming from Red Zones so that the government can be extra cautious and ensure that they undertake the mandatory quarantine of 14-days.

Director of Health Services, Dr Aman Warr informed that residents who have come from outside the state apart from the mandatory 14-day home quarantine will have to undergo for another 14-day "relaxed quarantine".

Meanwhile, Tynsong informed that till date 2,539 samples have been sent for testing out of which 2,526 tested negative.

So far out of the 13 COVID-19 positive cases, which include one deceased, 11 have recovered and one case is still active that of a maid from the residence of the first COVID-19 victim in the State.
