Indian Air Force showers petals on corona warriors in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: As a display of gratitude and respect to the frontline medical professionals and others, a chopper from Indian Air Force (IAF) flew past and showered flowers on them in this mountainous state capital of Meghalaya on Sunday.

An Advanced Light helicopter flew past over three hospitals – Shillong Civil Hospital and North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) besides Bethany Hospital, whose founder Dr. John L Sailo Rynthathiang succumbed to COVID-19 two days later after he got infected to the virus on April 13.

Led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, doctors, nurses, technical staff, sanitation workers and police personnel stood in Civil Hospital premises for this rare honour. The Civil hospital which is converted into a COVID-19 hospital, and presently there are three COVID-19 patients who are now tested negative for the deadly virus.

While the super-specialty NEIGRIHMS hospital is the nodal hospital for testing of samples for COVID-19. Thanking medical professionals and others who have been in the forefront to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Minister said, "I have no words to express the gratitude to all of you. These past few days I know it has been very very difficult for all of you but still you have not lost the faith and you continue with complete dedication."

"So once again really all of you deserve a big hand," he told the medical professionals at Civil Hospital amid claps to laud their service in these times of health crisis.
