Woman tests COVID negative after fifth analysis in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The 42-year-old woman of Meghalaya whose tests had yielded positive for COVID-19 for three consecutive times has been tested negative for the virus in her fifth re-test.

It may be mentioned that the woman had initially tested negative in her first test after her 14-day quarantine period ended but tested positive for the novel coronavirus in her next three tests.

"The swab sample of the patient has been tested negative in her fifth re-test," Director of Health Services, Dr Aman Warr said.

In the morning, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted that authorities will have to conduct another test after 24 hours for the final outcome.

The woman is a family friend of Meghalaya's first COVID-19 patient Dr John L Sailo Rynthathing, who succumbed to the virus.

She was tested positive for the virus on April 15, while Dr Sailo who tested positive on April 13, passed away on April 15.

So far out of the 13 COVID-19 positive cases in Meghalaya, the latest case being that of a 30-year-old woman who had tested positive for the virus on May 9, ten have recovered and Dr Sailo succumbed to the virus.

Health official said that the maid apparently broke quarantine protocols to buy essential commodities for the family.
