CUPS & CUES SPORTS CAFE

CUPS & CUES SPORTS CAFE

In this eating out section of Melange, we have been covering a number of eateries and cafes/ bistros which have come up in the city over the last couple of years. In order to provide a respite to the regular fast food joints, the increasing café culture that has grown in the city provides for a welcome change to the young crowd as well as food lovers of all age groups.

Needless to say, the cafe culture has truly burgeoned in the city with a number of theme-based cafes being launched at regular intervals. In this regard, we can make mention of the Fat Belly Cafe, Tall Boys Cafe, Vinyl Records Cafe, The Bean Journal and the like, which have emerged as popular hanging out spots of the younger lot and are currently trending in the food-scape of the city. This is a welcome trend as bistros where youngsters can get together over healthy food, on the likes of the cafes of Shillong, makes for a welcome diversion from the usual bars and discotheques that were earlier preferred by our youngsters.

This time around, we would like to acquaint you with another unique sports-themed café which has come up in the Six Mile-VIP road of the city. Named as Cups & Cues Sports Cafe, this sports café is located in the fringes of the other end of the city and provides for a welcome change to sports lovers and foodies of the area. As the management of Cups & Cues Sports Cafe likes to profess, “Ours is the ultimate heart-stopping, adrenaline-pumping, yell-yourself-hoarse sports viewing experience. While you're engrossed in the sporting action, our dedicated staff will keep your glass full with your favourite drink and your plate full of yummy delicacies.”

One of the few sports cafes of the city, Cups & Cues Sports Café has managed to gather a regular clientele of its own within a very short span of time. Located at VIP Road, Bormotoria, Six Mile in the city, this place is a popular hanging out zone for sports lovers and foodies who are on the lookout for casual dining and fast food.

The first thing that strikes one as he or she enters the place is the interiors. The interiors of the café have been designed on the theme of sports, especially football. Posters of popular sporting legends adorn the walls, while a pool table is placed in a corner of the cafe. The beautifully coloured walls and dim lighting further enhances the sports look of the café.

The layout of the interiors is nice and one gets a very positive feeling right from the moment he or she enters. So while the trendy interiors lift one's mood right from the moment he or she enters, the courteous behaviour of the staff and the wonderful quality of the food makes dining here a pleasant experience.

Coming to the food, this is the kind of food that has become popular in the city only in recent times. The café offers a very nicely selected menu, offering an eclectic range of dishes. But the breakfast and shakes are some of the most sought after dishes here.

A visitor to the café Saptami Saikia said, “They have good varieties of food unlike other cafes. The prices of the shakes and drinks werereasonable. Though there were some juices unavailable, but they did not disappoint me as the shakes that we ordered were delicious. If u are a mango person, u can go for the mango flake shake! The must haveitem in the menu isChicken 65 with special sauce (that flavour of South Indian curry and mustard seeds with a tinge of Chinese taste lends a unique taste to your taste buds, which I am sure would never disappoint you. The Chicken fritters were the best that I have tasted in the city, and I will definitely visit this place again just to grab the chicken fritters. They were deliciously amazing! Coming to the ambience, they got a corner with bean bags, a pool table and flashy walls. It is pretty well decorated!I liked the painted walls and the lights go too well.”

Another customer Ayana Hazarika said, “I couldn't choose one dish to put up on my favourite list because everything that I ordered, I just loved it. The interior is just like a sports café, full of posters and wall arts of football legends. So at first we ordered Chicken in Heaven and Chicken 65 as the starters, which was so worth it. The Schezwan chicken noodles and Hakka noodles were spicily yummy. Then we went on ordering Chicken Chilly Dry which was very appetizing. This cafe is truly one of my recent favourites. You guys will love the quantity they serve for sure. Parking facility is good. Whether it is the drinks or the appetizers, the menu is full of outstanding items which you will like. And yes the service was quick too. They have got plenty of table games and a pool table and a video game station to pass your time merrily.”

While the aesthetic design of the cafe and courteous behaviour of the staff already creates a desirable ambience, the quality of the food served here is superb.

Most of the customers who returned found the food to be quite delicious and well served. All in all, Cups and Cues Sports Cafe provides one with the real essence of the cafe culture that is sweeping the food-scape of the city.
