Dada up, Didi down

The two common words associated with Bengali masses in Bengal. Didi meaning sister and Dada meaning brother. Right now, a pair of Dada and Didi (noway connected through blood) is hogging limelight in West Bengal. Former Indian cricket team captain Saurav Ganguly through his trade as cricketer and now as administrator has become pride of Bengal. During his days as cricketer he excelled and as one of the prolific ODI opening batsmen, as skipper one of the best in world cricket and also stamped his authority as middle order batter in test cricket. Coming to Didi i.e. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee majority of indigenous must be dropping their heads because of her as inefficient Chief Minister. Her soft corner for a section of people has bought her into bad books of the indigenous people. There was a saying in the past 'what Bengal thinks today India thinks tomorrow', but that famous saying has become obsolete under the present dispensation. Miss. Banerjee's utter arrogance and lust for power even at the cost of state and nation's integrity has pushed West Bengal hundred years back in regards to development. Her name Mamata is totally misnomer as she is totally merciless to achieve her political goal.

New university

The Government of Assam announced that a university would be established in Golaghat namely Sati Sadhini Rajyik Vishwavidalaya for a long time. This comes true as the Assam Assembly unanimously passed the Biragana Sati Sadhini Rajyik Vishwavidyalya Bill, 2020 on September this year. It is a good step and is welcomed. This move will boost high esteem to Chutia community in Assam.

Passport offices

The passport appointments issued at Post Office Passport Sewa Kendras (POPSK) and Passport Sewa Kendras (PSK) function only for five days a week from Monday through Fridays. It is thus given to understand that no appointments are allocated on all the Saturdays of the month and on the days of special clearance drives. As most of the applicants are working professionals, there is now a necessity to make the passport application process available even on Saturdays, which is the weekly off for most of the passport applicants under the Normal Category.

With the increasing demand to obtain Tatkal and Normal category passports, the suggestion will highly benefit the working professionals who otherwise face logistical inconvenience for an appointment on any of the four-day working hours at the Passport offices. The move will also help respective Regional Passport Offices to dispose-off application requests quickly, thereby easing the online appointment availability with shorter wait times.

The Consular, Passports and Visa Division of the Hon'ble Ministry of External Affairs is thus kindly requested to look into arranging a passport application appointment process to at least on the First and Third Saturdays of every month at all POPSKs and PSKs. The suggestion may be considered in the best interest of working professionals who otherwise enjoy a weekly-off on Saturdays and thus may avail the facility in a hassle-free manner even on Saturdays.

Unlock Question Hour

It is a matter of grave concern that the NDA government has postponed the Question Hour from the forthcoming monsoon session of the parliament. This decision will set up a wrong trend in the parliamentary and also for State legislative assemblies. Question Hour is devoted to questions that Members of Parliament raise about any aspect of administrative activity. The Minister concerned is obliged to answer to the Parliament, either orally or in writing, depending on the type of question raised. It is not a right move to postpone the Question Hour due to COVID-19, because the government has also restarted various economic activities during Unlock 4. Hope that the NDA government should reconsider this issue and allow question hour. It will be helpful to sustain democratic values and beliefs of common people of the country.
