Fraud looting AIDC money

People are surprised to note at the way their hard-earned money is wasted due to whims and caprice of certain unscrupulous officials. Your front-page news under the caption, 'Fraud loots AIDC Money' (The Sentinel, September 16) makes conscious citizens raise their eyebrows. How the fraud could convince the senior officials of the AIDC that he is a manger of Central Bank of India is shrouded with mystery. It is reported in the news that the fixed deposit of Rs. 14 crore of AIDC in Canara Bank, Kahilipara City Branch matured recently and the fraud could convince the senior officials that if the entire proceeds of the matured amount is transferred to Central Bank of India, it would fetch high rate of interest and without verifying the credentials of the self-styled bank manager the officials of AIDC gave him the nob. Accordingly, the amount was transferred from Canara Bank to the Bhangagarh branch of Central Bank of India. Then the fraud managed to transfer an amount more than Rs. 2 crore to a bank based in Kolkata and the Bank Manager later withdrew the sum in Kolkata. AIDC in its deep slumber could learn about the fraud from Bhangagarh Branch of Central Bank of India.

We now wait and watch to know what action the Government of Assam would take on the erring officials.

Electricity charges

According to the media, the electricity charges have been raised for 7th consecutive time in the last four-and-a-half years by the government. In 2016, the power charges were Rs. 4.95 per unit but at present it has been raised up to Rs. 9.24 per unit after crossing the limit of 240 units. The regular increasing energy charges affect the consumers badly whereas many of them have been affected economically due to corona pandemic and prolonged lockdown. But surprisingly, at the same time, the Delhi government provides free electricity up to 200 units to the consumers as well as the Tamil Nadu government provides 100 units of free electricity. Therefore, our State government must look into the matter seriously, considering the weak economic conditions of most of the consumers before increasing energy charges.

Welcome Assam Police

Arshita Hazarika, a Gauhati University student lost her important documents, purse and mobile phone on September 10. She is appearing for a written test to qualify for Delhi University. Ultimately she got the lost documents with the help of the Assam police. It is surely a good job by the department. Hope the Assam Police will go ahead with such actions in the future.
