MUMBAI: JioStar, the new joint venture created through the merger of Viacom18 and Star India, has launched JioHotstar, an all-encompassing streaming platform that combines JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar content.

JioHotstar CEO Kiran Mani said the company's goal is to make "premium entertainment truly accessible to all Indians." Serving a huge audience of more than 1.4 billion people, JioHotstar will be offering content in ten languages, so people can watch their favorite shows, movies, and sports in live streaming within just one application.

In a recent announcement, JioHotstar confirmed that existing subscribers of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar will have a seamless transition to the new platform. Besides original content, JioHotstar will also host content from major studios such as NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros, Discovery, HBO, and Paramount, making it stand out from other streaming platforms.

The platform will also have a new feature known as Sparks, which will concentrate on India's best digital creators. Sports fans can expect to watch top-class cricket tournaments, such as the IPL, WPL, and ICC tournaments, along with coverage of the Premier League, Wimbledon, and domestic leagues like Pro Kabaddi and ISL.

JioHotstar will provide 4K streaming and premium features like AI-driven insights, real-time stats overlays, multi-angle viewing, and niche interest feeds. Subscription will begin at Rs 149 for three months for mobile customers.
