GUWAHATI: In a swift and decisive action against illegal cross-border infiltration, Assam Police, under strict border surveillance, nabbed a Bangladeshi national trying to enter the state illegally. Identified as Rupa Sathi, the person was quickly sent back, preventing the illegal entry into India.
Assam Police and border security agencies have stepped up their vigilance to foil illegal entry and protect the state's borders. In recent months, they have enhanced security at porous border points by using advanced monitoring methods and adding more personnel to spot and prevent illegal movement. Reaffirming Assam’s firm stance on the issue, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "Zero tolerance for illegal infiltration."
Meanwhile, earlier last month, Assam Police had successfully apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, on January 28 for attempting to illegally cross into India near the India-Bangladesh border. The individuals, identified as Hubha S, Mithun S, and Pinki Molla, had been arrested and later pushed back to Bangladesh.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had praised the police for being alert and stopping illegal border crossings. On social media, he had said, "Strict vigilance along the border continues. In an alert move by @assampolice, 3 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended near the border trying to illegally sneak in."
The Chief Minister had also talked about the effectiveness of border security, including the fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, which was nearing completion. CM Sarma had assured that Assam was staying alert to prevent illegal crossings and had expressed concern about possible links between Pakistan’s ISI, terrorist groups in Bangladesh, and local groups in Assam.
