Mental health is the buzzword of the 21st century. Mental health refers to your mental state, including the ability to feel and cope with daily life problems. The importance of mental health is that it helps an individual realize his or her own abilities and cope with the normal stresses of life. In fact, a person with good mental health can work productively and can make contribution to his or her society.

The countries with the highest prevalent rates of mental disorders in the world are Portugal, Iran, and Lebanon. We also see high prevalence and disability in US, Australia, Western Europe, and parts of the Brazil. The chart of mental health vs mental illness is an important showcase of a country’s well-being.

As per a survey, one in seven people in India suffer from mental illness and approximately 70–92 percent of common mental health disorders go untreated. Most importantly, financial setbacks, which are the resultants of poor mental health in India, have already affected workplace, employees’ productivity, and performance, and increases attrition levels. The suicides of farmers are some of the glaring examples of India’s mental health disaster.

As far as the diagnosis of mental health issue is concerned, it is always advisable to consult a psychologist or psychiatrist and take medication. To maintain good mental health, it is also very important to establish and maintain beneficial interpersonal relationships. Being with people who are positive and supportive of you can help build a good self-image, enhance self-confidence and resistance. It is one of the natural ways to improve mental health. 

If you can actively support and care for the people around you, it will be easier for you to get a positive response from them, enhance your self-image and believe in your ability to contribute to this society. The lack of this support system is a key reason for prevalence of mental disorders worldwide.

Apart from it, spending time in nature helps with the mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. There is a famous saying, "My friends accompanied me through high mountains and valleys. They never criticized me, but accompanied me through the darkest times of my life.” Nature is one of the best ways to improve mental health.
