Itanagar: A day-long workshop on enhancing mental health and suicide risk reduction among school and college students was organized at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), near here, on Monday.

The event organised by the Arunachal team of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies under RGU, focused on equipping principals with the knowledge and tools necessary to create a supportive environment for student well-being, identify early warning signs of mental health challenges, and implement effective suicide prevention strategies. Lehki-based Hills College of Teachers’ Education principal Prof Manjula M Mahapatra and principal of Government College Doimukh, Dr Taw Azu, attended the event, a communiqué informed here. Project principal investigator Dr Tarun Mene in his welcome address highlighted the importance of mental health in the academic environment. The key sessions of the workshop focused on suicide risk identification and prevention.

Project research scientists-II Dr Leeyir Ete, provided participants with vital training on recognizing warning signs of students at risk of self-harm or suicide.
