Pak court grants 10 yr sentence to Hafiz Saeed, 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind

New Delhi: Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed is sentenced to 10 years jail by anti-terrorism court in Lahore for two terror-financing cases.

Saeed and his two close aides- Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid- have been sentenced to 10 and a half years each, while JuD chief's brother-in-law Abdul Rehman Makki was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

A total of 41 cases have been registered against the JuD leaders, out of which 24 have been decided while the rest are pending.

Four cases against Saeed have been decided so far.

This is not the first time Saeed, chief of Jamat-ud-Dawa, a front organisation for the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been sentenced for a terror case. In February, he was convicted with some of his aides and was sentenced to 11 years in a terror-financing case.

He is also known as a 'global terrorist' both by the United Nations and the US, which put a $10 million bounty on his head.

Saeed-led 26/11 attack killed 166 innocent people in Mumbai including six Americans.

The US Department of the Treasury has designated Saeed as a 'Specially Designated Global Terrorist' who is also listed under the UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008.
