
TIBET: At least 30 people lost their lives, and multiple buildings collapsed following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck near the Tibet-Nepal border on Tuesday morning, according to China's state media, as reported by AFP.
The earthquake, which struck at 6:35 am IST, had its epicenter in the Tibet region, approximately 93 km northeast of Lobuche, Nepal, as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake, with its epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers, also triggered tremors in Bihar and various regions of North India. Lobuche, situated near the Khumbu Glacier in Nepal, is about 150 kilometers east of Kathmandu and lies close to the Everest Base Camp.
China's earthquake monitoring agency reported the quake's magnitude as 6.8, with the epicenter located at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters (13,800 feet), according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Additionally, according to NCS data, two more earthquakes hit the region later in the morning.
A magnitude 4.7 earthquake was recorded at 7:02 AM IST, with its epicenter located at a latitude of 28.60 degrees North and longitude of 87.68 degrees East, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Another earthquake, measuring magnitude 4.9, struck at 7:07 AM IST, with its epicenter located at a latitude of 28.68 degrees North and longitude of 87.54 degrees East, at a depth of 30 kilometers.
