NEW DELHI: With the seventeenth hike in less than a month in the price of fuel oil across the country, states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh witnessed petrol price breaching Rs100 marks in various cities.

Meanwhile, some of the cities selling the fuel for over Rs 100 per litre are Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Parbhani, Aurangabad, Jaisalmer, Ganganagar, Banswara, Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Guntur and Kakinada.

Mumbai has the highest rates among metros. Petrol is currently sold at Rs 100.72 per litre in the financial capital and diesel at Rs 92.69. Pump prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi on Tuesday also made a new record of Rs 94.49 per litre and Rs 85.38 a litre, respectively.

Surging international oil rates and exorbitant domestic tax structure are two key reasons for high rates of petrol and diesel in pumps.

Notably, according to executives working in state-run oil marketing companies, pump prices are also high because companies were recovering their past revenue losses like the one suffered for 66 days since February 27 when rates were not raised because of assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory.

On the other hand, the Petrol and Diesel prices in Guwahati have been turning more volatile, as prices of crude oil have been showing a firm trend with petrol price in Guwahati Rs 90.20 (1st June 2021) and diesel stands at Rs 85.23 (1st June 2021).
