NEW DELHI: The Udaan Regional Connectivity Scheme has been a game-changer for India’s middle class, making air travel quicker, cheaper, and more accessible. Launched to improve regional air connectivity, the scheme has helped over 1.5 crore people by giving them more options for air travel. The initiative has connected 88 airports across the country and launched 619 routes, reaching different regions, including underserved and remote areas.
This ambitious project, supported by the Government of India, has made air travel much cheaper and easier for a larger group of people, especially those in smaller towns and rural areas. The Udaan scheme has helped strengthen local economies by promoting tourism, improving trade, and creating new business opportunities in places that were poorly connected to air travel before.
To make the Udaan scheme better and improve regional connections, the government has announced an updated version. This new plan will add 120 more destinations, expanding air travel options. It is expected to serve 4 crore more passengers over the next 10 years.
This expansion will have a big impact on India’s air transport sector. The updated scheme will make air travel cheaper and easier, while also helping improve the country’s infrastructure. By adding more destinations, it will give people more travel options, boost local economies, and improve connections to areas that were not well-served before. The government’s long-term vision is to improve the quality of travel, enhance safety standards, and reduce congestion in major airports by promoting regional airports.
