GUWAHATI: The Delhi Police have stepped up their campaign against illegal immigration, recently apprehending three Bangladeshi nationals in separate operations across the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest Delhi) Surendra Choudhary revealed that a mother-son duo was detained on December 29 during a special verification drive. Naim Khan, 22, was intercepted in the Shastri Market area near Pippal Chowk based on a tip-off. Investigations revealed that he had illegally entered India via the West Bengal border in 2020 and was living in Delhi with his mother, Nazma Khan, who had entered the country two decades ago through the Benapole border.

Nazma, a domestic worker, and her son were detained and deported back to Bangladesh after the necessary legal procedures were completed through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

In another operation, Mohammad Akhtar Seikh, previously arrested in November for a drug-related case, was detained again during an address verification process. He had initially claimed to be from West Bengal but was later identified as a Bangladeshi citizen who had entered India illegally in 2004.

Seikh, who worked as a construction laborer in Delhi, disclosed during interrogation that he had married an Indian woman in West Bengal in 2012 before relocating to the capital. Unable to provide valid Indian identification, he was arrested under the Foreigners Act and deported.

These recent arrests highlight the Delhi Police's intensified efforts to address concerns over unauthorized migration. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to identifying and deporting illegal migrants to ensure compliance with immigration laws.

This crackdown follows growing concerns about illegal migration's impact on local resources and security, emphasizing the need for robust verification processes.
