
MUMBAI: BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is set to take oath as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra. His name was chosen during a meeting of the BJP's core committee at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday.
Former CM Fadnavis was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party. The decision to appoint him as Chief Minister was made at this meeting, with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani acting as central observers.
BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that the Mahayuti coalition leaders would meet Governor C P Radhakrishnan at 3:30 pm on Wednesday to formally claim the right to form the government.
Earlier, Ajit Pawar, a member of the Mahayuti alliance, stated that the Chief Minister would be from the BJP, while the deputy Chief Minister positions would go to the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Mumbai's Azad Maidan on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Preparations were in full swing for the swearing-in ceremony.
Around 2,000 VVIPs and 40,000 supporters are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Devendra Fadnavis. Several Union ministers and 19 chief ministers and deputy CMs of various states are also expected to attend the ceremony.
BJP leader Prasad Lad has said the ceremony will be a "historic moment" for Maharashtra. "The event will be telecast live across the state wherever LED screens are available," he said.
